Why do accusations of FII happen?
February 15 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm
£6Conversations that need to be discussed!
Speaker
Shona Murphy is researching accusations of Fabricated or Induced Illness (FII) at Edge Hill University, where she also teaches about autism. She is an autistic parent to two autistic children and therefore has knowledge of autism and neurodiversity from both an academic and a lived experience perspective.
The presentation
Fabricated or Induced Illness is a grave social injustice for parents of children with hidden disabilities. Autistic parents are particularly at risk of being falsely accused. This presentation will discuss some of the reasons for this, paying particular attention to how knowledge from professionals is perceived as more credible than that of the parent. This is known as Epistemic Injustice.
