The National Strategy states “We want many more businesses\, public sector services and different parts of the transport system to become more autism-inclusive\, so that autistic people can access these spaces and services\, just like everyone else.” Autism Champions can work towards gaining the badge for their teams\, departments or organisations. \nObjectives\nThe course content is as below:\n\nAutism legislation\, statutory guidance and values\nThe autism spectrum\nAutism and social communication\nAutism\, rigidity and repetitiveness\nAutism and sensory difference\nSupporting an individual with autism using a person-centred approach.\n\nObjectives of the course are:\n\nTo gain an understanding of individuality in autism with an introduction to creating an individual profile to form the basis of a support plan\nTo gain an understanding of the subtleties of social communication differences and rigidity using theory of mind\, executive functioning and sensory difference exercises\nTo develop autism knowledge to inform and improve own practice and devise an action plan going forwards\nTo explore how best to manage effective communication between autistic individuals\, families and professionals\nTo be aware of responsibilities within legislation\, including the Mental Health Act\, the Mental Capacity Act plus DoLS and the Equality Act 2010\nTo be aware of the NICE Guidelines for the diagnoses and pathways of autistic children and adults\nTo develop an action plant for cascading the learning to colleagues and teams\n\nFacilitation\nThe Autism Champions course is delivered in two parts: \n\nPart 1 – CPD accredited eLearning – this needs to be completed prior to Part 2.\nPart 2 – two Zoom sessions (the sessions are two weeks apart) – leading to the CPD accredited Autism Champions certificate\n\nThe course is delivered by a Living Autism trainer with input from an autistic expert by experience. \nThe Zoom sessions are interactive with active participation from attendees. \nAlternative facilitation\nFor organisations that would like to train between 6 and 10 Champions\, the Autism Champions course can be offered onsite face-to-face.
