Now in its third year, the Witherslack Group Conference aims to support parents and carers of children and young people with special educational needs by sharing specialist advice and practical support.
This year the event has another fantastic line-up of speakers offering a wide range of experience and expertise.
Managing anxiety and improving sleeping habits
The keynote speaker will be Dr Tony Lloyd, a Child Psychotherapist and CEO of the ADHD Foundation. Dr Lloyd’s presentation will focus on managing anxiety and improving sleeping habits.
Leading SEN psychologist and Witherslack Group’s Clinical Director, Dr Madeleine Portwood, will present on the overlap between ASD, ADHD, ADD, Dyslexia and Dyspraxia, the importance of understanding how they all relate to a child’s needs and how to best support both parent and child.
There will also be talks from Justine Sims, Head Teacher at the Ofsted-outstanding Pontville School, and from the Group’s Therapy Team.
How home and school can work together
Ms Sims’ talk will focus on the ‘Team Around the Child’ approach and how home and school can work together to best support pupils. The Therapy Team will be holding a therapeutic workshop offering expert insight and practical advice regarding successful interaction between parent, professional and child.
Pontville School, an Ofsted outstanding school since 2009, will once again host the conference in its state-of-the-art school hall. Pontville is regarded by many as the leading school of its type in the UK and supports children and young people with Autistic Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and speech, language and communication needs.
