Tiimo, the Copenhagen-based startup that provides visual guidance and independence to those affected by ADHD and autism, is looking to raise €500,000 on the investment platform Seedrs. The crowdfunding campaign is one of the biggest ever for assistive technology, and is already over 50% funded. Anyone can sign up and invest as little as €25 for a share in the company.
The company plans to use the funding to increase the subscriber base of their app to 10,000 within two years, while further developing the product to innovate the process of diagnosis and treatment autism and ADHD. Today’s process is time-consuming, complex and largely analogue, involving interviews, physical observations, self-checklists and questionnaires. Tiimo aims to transform this by using machine learning to collect and analyze real-time feedback on users’ daily mood, routines and symptoms to recognize positive and negative patterns.
Award-winning app
Awarded “Best Social Impact Startup in Denmark” in October 2019 by the Nordic Startup Awards, Tiimo is the first assistive technology app to support people with autism and ADHD on smartwatches. It is also available for smartphones and tablets operating on iOS and Android systems. The app currently provides users with an assistive tool, helping them overcome specific cognitive difficulties such as time management, memory and daily routines. A discrete digital solution, it gives the user a visual overview of planned activities for each day, as inputted by themselves, a parent or a caretaker. Key features include visual countdown timers to better comprehend time, and motivating reminders in a gamified design, promoting focus and stability for the user.
Helene Lassen Nørlem, CEO and co-founder of Tiimo, comments: ‘We are extremely pleased to be named the “Best Social Impact Startup” in Denmark, as we launch our crowdfunding campaign on Seedrs. Our campaign is integral to raising awareness around ADHD and autism, while also providing an opportunity for anyone to buy shares and own a piece of Tiimo. There is so much room for innovation in this area, and our goal is to create the new standard in how technology is used to improve diagnosis and treatment of ADHD and autism worldwide.’
Innovation needed
It is estimated that approx. 280 million children and adults worldwide today have ADHD or autism, and this number is growing. These conditions are notoriously difficult to diagnose and can cause significant disruption to a person’s family life and education. Retaining focus and following routine can be an ongoing challenge. While traditional organisational tools like physical calendars, clocks and paper reminders are available they don’t always prove to be very effective – it can be difficult to implement them on-the-go and they are perceived as embarrassing in a home, school or work environment.
Daniel M. Jones, an autism YouTuber with 100,000 plus followers operating under the brand name ‘The Aspie World’, who makes educational content on autism and ADHD, comments: ‘Tiimo has been an amazing support to me, especially when I am travelling around and doing events. During these times, when my normal daily routines are disturbed, I need something that’s going to keep me on track. Tiimo means that I’m fully supported getting to meetings on time, and eating at the right time; things that my conditions can make challenging. It’s the kind of app I was looking for, for a long time and didn’t exist. I also love their long term vision of improving diagnosis and treatment of autism and ADHD. They’re a company that actually cares about and involves people with autism and ADHD in their product design, and genuinely wants to make the world more inclusive.’
