This September, Emotion Robotics Ltd launched a cutting-edge application, Assist for Autism, to help teachers easily utilise Softbank Robotics’ interactive Nao robot for the education of autistic children.
Assist for Autism provides teachers with a simple control interface and the ability to customise their own activities while including turn-taking, collaborative play and empathy development activities as standard.
Assist for Autism provides a simple web browser-based interface for teachers. However, whilst being browser-based, the application does not require access to the internet, providing a comprehensive management and teaching resource via iPads and Tablets.
New teaching activities
All existing robot behaviours can be managed from this platform, and new teaching activities have been developed that allow students to interact with the robot via touch devices such as iPads and Android tablets.
Large touchscreen devices, such as wall-mounted displays, can also be supported, as well as existing laptop and desktop equipment.
Custom content
The application is provided with a range of popular activities as standard, while custom content can be created through the Emotion Robotics Robot Content Manager system. This allows activities on Nao to be tailored to meet a particular student or class’s needs, helping to engage students effectively and reinforce specific subject material.
For schools and groups with an existing NAO robot, the solution is available as a software-only package. Where an organisation wishes to start from a greenfield environment, NAO and the solution, with staff training, setup and an ongoing subscription-based update and support service is available.
