Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, has been committed to providing an autism-friendly vacation experience since January 2016, when Surfside Beach was recognized as the first certified autism-friendly destination.
Welcoming and inclusive
The Myrtle Beach area strives each day to create a more welcoming and inclusive place for families to vacation, relax, and enjoy all that there is to do at The Beach.
Through autism resources, like the CAN Card from a local partner, Champion Autism Network, visitors and locals can enjoy The Beach’s many attractions and restaurants in a sensory-friendly way with access to shorter wait times, allergy-friendly options, headphones for loud spaces, and discounted prices.
Autism-friendly events
Champion Autism Network also hosts sensory-friendly events every week, including special movie theatre showings, aquarium visits and trampoline parks.
Relax in the warm, salty air at one of six pristine beaches across the Myrtle Beach area, many equipped with lifeguards and safety signs to keep children safe.
Explore the outdoors
Or explore the outdoors at Savannah’s Playground, a fully accessible playground with colourful and fun ADA-compliant play areas, located in the heart of Myrtle Beach.
When travelling to and from The Beach, Myrtle Beach International Airport offers a Quiet Room for travellers to decompress after a long flight.
The Quiet Room, one of the first in the country, is a nap-and-play zone with soft interiors in a secluded area of the airport.
There are also many hotels, condos, and beach homes that are autism-friendly, with staff willing to extend a helping hand and committed to providing a sensory-friendly experience.
Myrtle Beach is the place where everybody can belong, and this means every body, every ability, every family, every one.
