Max arrived at Kisimul in September 2017 and became the inaugural resident at Keyll House, Surrey. Living with severe autism and non-verbal communication, Max found solace and a nurturing environment at Keyll House, enabling him to flourish once more at the age of 32.
Max is sociable and very compassionate. From a young age, Max has found joy in painting, and during the COVID-19 lockdown in 2020, with the caring support of the Keyll House team, he was able to delve deeper into his artistic pursuits.
Painting has become more than a hobby for Max; it allows him a voice, a means of self-expression and seems to be a source of immense happiness.
Rhythmic brushstrokes
Max’s artistic process is characterized by methodical and rhythmic brushstrokes, with some pieces completed swiftly while others are meticulously crafted over hours.
Each colourful stroke seems to provoke thought and exude therapeutic qualities.
Max’s mum said: “Kisimul has played a pivotal role in nurturing Max’s passion for art, providing support in setting up his canvas, selecting colours, and even organizing weekly in-house art classes where Max has been able to extend his creative skills and explore various alternative art forms, like papier-mâché and collages.”
Online gallery
With so many stunning pieces of artwork, Max’s family decided to create ‘Artwork by Max’, an online gallery to showcase his work, with nearly 100 stunning pieces of art!
With the continued support of Kisimul and his family, Max was able to hold his first art exhibition and have more planned for this summer. We are proud to support Max, helping to create a fulfilling future and meaningful life.
