B Squared, a provider of market-leading assessment software to schools for over 20 years, has launched Autism Progress, a brand new tool designed to profile people with autism.
Developed in collaboration with three leading autism charities – Autism Wessex, Scottish Autism and the North East Autism Society – Autism Progress helps education and care professionals to assess the true impact of a person’s autism and guides the development of targeted support strategies.
A strong history within SEN
B Squared has a long tradition of working within the special educational sector. Designed by teachers for teachers, their assessment products are capable of detecting even the smallest of improvements, making them ideally tailored to assessing progress and achievements for people with special educational needs. Today, a third of all special schools in England trust Connecting Steps software to track pupil progress through EYFS, P Scales P1(i) to P8 and the National Curriculum.
Autism Progress – profiling and support strategies
Building on this strong area of specialism, B Squared teamed up with the three autism charities to create a new profiling tool that illustrates the unique way each person can be affected by autism.
Autism Progress was designed to help education and care staff to profile strengths and weaknesses across four key areas of impairment:
- Communication
- Social interaction
- Flexibility of thought
- Emotional regulation
Once the profile has been completed, a clear picture is created of how each individual is affected – the areas they find difficult and those they have strengths in. Importantly, this brand new profiling tool also provides a range of ability-relevant strategies relating to the specific area of impairment, helping with the development of tailored support plans.
Where and how can it be used?
Designed for use across a variety of settings – from mainstream and special schools to adult care homes – the aim of Autism Progress is to provide education and care settings with a better understanding of how an individual’s autism affects them, profiling each individual’s strengths and weaknesses and to support their growth and development.
