Autism Eye Magazine has been honoured with a 2012 Media Pioneer award. The accolade recognizes innovation and entrepreneurial spirit in print and digital media.
Announcing the award, the judges commented on the way “experienced journalists who couldn’t find the information they needed to help their child with autism launched their own title.
“They created a fresh and carefully targeted publication and used digital subscriptions to build an international circulation base.”
The award was collected by Mark Hayes, Autism Eye’s publisher, at a ceremony in Birmingham that attracted entrants from some of the UK’s biggest publishers.
Mark said: “It’s great to get recognition from our peers in the publishing industry, but our biggest encouragement comes from our readers and from trying to make a positive difference to the lives of families affected by autism.”
Among the judges for the Media Pioneer Awards were Tim Brooks, who launched Media Week and has been MD at Emap, IPC and the Guardian; Andy Marshall, who runs more than 50 titles for Immediate Media (formerly BBC Magazines, Origin Publishing and Magicalia); and James Evelegh, editor of InPublishing.
