About CENMAC
CENMAC is a unique, person-centred service supporting children and young people aged two to 25, usually with an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP), experiencing barriers to their learning and/or communication in mainstream schools, special schools, or at home.
Our multi-disciplinary team provides assessments, reviews and the loan of a wide range of assistive technology (AT) and/or augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) to support the needs of each individual.
We aim to raise the aspirations, enable the independence and self-advocacy of every child and young person we support, and celebrate their achievements.
Enabling independence
We look at the abilities and strengths of every child or young person we assess and focus on enabling their potential, giving them a voice, and increasing their independence.
Assistive technology
We loan a range of assistive technology to suit the needs of each individual, including the hardware, software and adaptive technology for access such as eye gaze, switches, a variety of mice/keyboards and much more.
Training and support
CENMAC offers training and support to teachers, SENCOs, TAs, parents and carers to help increase their confidence and knowledge so they can provide the best level of support.
During term time, our 30-minute Thursday Thirty online training sessions briefly introduce the technology we use. We also provide tailored face-to-face training for school SEND teams.
Events
We run an annual event called Communication Works, enabling visitors to see a range of assistive technology, communication tools and person-centred approaches first-hand.
It is a great opportunity for our CENMAC students to demonstrate the technology and the achievements they have made. Our 2025 event will take place on Thursday 22nd May, so please save the date!
Location
Our service is based at Charlton Park Academy in South East London. We work across the Greater London area, liaising closely with local authorities, including Greenwich, Havering, Lambeth and Southwark.
