In 2024, our charity marks 36 years of supporting individuals with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) through a range of services and activities.
Wide range of activities
Providing holidays for SEND schools and groups, along with activities such as fun fitness, rebound therapy, dance and movement and other day programmes, The Wingate Centre ensures that everyone has equal access to positive opportunities and experiences that improve their quality of life and well-being, regardless of ability.
This year, we are excited to fully open our Sunshine Cafe, serving brunch and lunch Monday through to Thursday.
Open to the general public, the café is a social hub, promoting inclusion and independence for those who attend our day activities.
The Sunshine Cafe also holds events throughout the year, including “Stay and Play” for families with young children, accessible every Monday morning from 11.00 am.
SPARKS programme
Our SPARKS programme for adults with SEND continues to grow. We partnered with Reaseheath College and Cheshire East Council in 2023 to offer a numeracy programme.
This year, we have introduced the Boccia Club and have continued to partner with the Crewe Lyceum Theatre, offering an inclusive theatre group, The Lyceum LITES.
We are also about to launch a Cookery Club, teaching new life skills and promoting independence.
Other new activities
But it is not just SPARKS activities that have expanded.
We continue to offer our holiday clubs during school holidays for children with SEND and have started our All-Stars Saturdays, a two-hour sports and social group for children between the ages of reception to 12 years.
Our holiday accommodation has also seen the addition of new playground equipment and a firepit in 2023, ensuring that school residentials and holidays will be full of even more excitement, fun and fond memories.
Generous donations
All the work that we do at The Wingate Centre is sustained through fundraising. With an annual target of £450,000, we rely on all the generous donations we receive to enable us to make important upgrades, ensuring our ability to offer more subsidised activities and holidays; making a difference for years to come.
