Preparation for adulthood
At BeyondAutism, we want to see autistic young adults prepared for adulthood with the skills that enable them to have choices over where and how they live, what they do and with whom.
We offer meaningful choices for individuals and their families, working in partnership with employers and social care providers to develop pathways to successfully step into adulthood, supported living and employment options.
Our hubs
We have three sites across Hammersmith and Wandsworth in London. Our community-based approach to Post-19 education means that students split their time between accessing teaching and activities in one of our hubs, and spending up to 50% of their time learning ‘off-site’ in the community. This may be in the local community around their hub, or the student’s own community, near their home.
Learning
Our curriculum responds to the needs of an individual, their aspirations and their desired outcomes. It has communication and interaction at its core and is aligned with the four areas of the Preparation for Adulthood framework:
- Vocational and Employment
- Independence
- Community Participation
- Health and Wellbeing
We focus on sustainable progress and skills acquisition, while ensuring that learning remains relevant, functional, and engaging. Using a learner’s Education, Health and Care Plan, and assessments from our interdisciplinary team, an Individual Education Plan (IEP) and bespoke timetable are created. The IEP is personalised to each individual student’s ‘ideal week’, with a focus on having a life that is varied, broad and balanced.
