Meaningful Futures
Delivering meaningful futures for young people and adults with autism, learning disabilities, and complex needs is at the heart of everything we do at Kisimul.
- Our registered independent special schools support children and young people from ages 8 – 19 year-olds.
- Our specialist children’s care homes support 8 – 19 year-olds.
- We have an independent specialist college, providing further education for 18 – 25 year-olds.
- We have adult residential homes and supported living accommodation throughout the UK for adults 18+.
How the Meaningful Life model works
At Kisimul, we work closely with the people we support and their families to agree and describe what a meaningful life and fulfilling future could look like for them.
Together, we create a personalised plan with bespoke goals that span home and school life to encourage the maintenance and generalisation of skills.
Taking a holistic view, we identify bespoke goals that span every setting to ensure consistency, create stability, and ultimately deliver the best outcomes, while bringing that individual’s dreams and aspirations to life.
“I could write an essay regarding how good Kisimul is, I’m so impressed with this place that I dug in my heels in and managed to get my son an extended placement until he is 19 years old. I am also striving to get him to remain in Kisimul when he transitions into his adult supported living next summer.” Parent
Therapeutic services
We are proud to have our own on-site psychology and therapist team, which offers a range of invaluable support to the young people and adults who access our services.
Working collaboratively with colleagues from all areas of the organisation, as well as with the families of the people we care for, our 20-strong team ensures that every aspect of a person’s development and well-being is considered at every stage of their journey with us.
In tandem with the education and care teams, Kisimul’s therapeutic services unit will evaluate and make recommendations around how best to support an individual’s progress in line with their own meaningful life plan.
This involves assessing a person’s day-to-day needs to ensure they have everything they need to feel safe, connected, and emotionally regulated.
They will also create secondary reactive strategies, such as emotion coaching, and behaviour crisis plans to protect the individual’s safety.
These plans are regularly reviewed and adapted as those needs evolve, with the ultimate aim being to ensure the happiness and well-being of residents and learners.
Kisimul offers a range of therapeutic services, including:
- Occupational Therapy
- Psychology
- Music Therapy
- Art Therapy
- Speech & Language Therapy
“George appears very happy, I couldn’t be happier with the care he receives. He eats better than he ever has done and is encouraged to try nutritious foods. He gets the physical activity he needs and trips out to maintain the quality of life he deserves.” Parent
